When problems arise during consumer transactions, the Consumer Protection Division assists Arkansas residents. Staff from the Attorney General’s Office may be able to assist by contacting a business and mediating a favorable resolution. Attorneys may also file lawsuits against those who violate the Arkansas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
Antitrust laws are intended to encourage healthy competition among businesses and, as a result, to ensure consumer choice. Consumers frequently pay the price when companies collude to set prices or influence a fair marketplace. The office of the Attorney General investigates and prosecutes alleged violations of state and federal antitrust laws. These laws are based on two fundamental requirements: companies cannot agree to limit competition in ways that harm consumers, and no single company may monopolize or attempt to monopolize an industry through unfair practices.
